Lynwood African American Parent Advisory Council Hosts Back to School Brunch, Strengthens Bond with District Families

Lynwood Unified School District’s Equity, Access, and Instructional Services Department hosted the first African American Parent Advisory Council (AAPAC) meeting for the 2023-24 school year in the form of a lively back-to-school brunch on Sept. 30.

The gathering served as an opportunity for new and returning Lynwood Unified parents to connect with the council committee, and receive valuable insights and resources to support their students throughout the academic year.

After a committee introduction and recap of last year’s events, Keynote Speaker Dr. Darin Early delivered a presentation on "Intentional Parenting," equipping parents with unique tools to assist them in guiding their children through their educational journeys.

Established in 2021, Lynwood Unified's AAPAC was created with the goal of empowering parents of African American students by providing them with essential tools, resources, and insights to ensure their children's success in school without encountering barriers. Since its inception, the council has organized numerous events and meetings, fostering unity among parents, students and the District.
